REPRESENTATIVES

Our Hall Council is connected to many external groups. Representative positions allow residents to focus on specific interests and skills while still building the community and leadership involved in Hall Council! Representatives will gather information from their specific group and share it will the Hall Council during our weekly general council meetings.

These positions include 3-4 hours of engagement per week.

Representatives Positions: Admission

Senator for Associated Students of the University of Washington (ASUW) (2)

The ASUW representatives work with the Associated Students of the University of Washington organization to share the voices of McCarty Hall residents. These representatives will be Hall Senators, and will have the ability to represent our community while engaging in leadership, collaboration, and advocacy. ASUW Reps will:

  • Attend weekly hall caucus meeting led by RCSA Director of External Affairs

  • Attend weekly ASUW Senate meeting (Tuesdays at 5pm-7pm)

  • Attend weekly general hall council meetings and provide regular updates about ASUW and campus initiatives

  • Lead discussions with council members to gather student opinion

  • Attend quarterly meeting with MHC advisor Linds

  • Attend monthly meetings with AD for Representation

Students Expressing Environmental Dedication (SEED) Representatives (1-2)

These representatives work with the SEED organization to teach residents about sustainable issues that impact our campus. To learn more about SEED, visit this website.

SEED Rep will:

  • Attend weekly SEED meetings (Thursdays at 5:30pm)

  • Facilitate voting for any necessary SEED legislation/initiative

  • Attend quarterly meeting with MHC advisor Linds

  • Attend monthly meetings with AD for Representation

  • Attend weekly general hall council meetings and provide regular updates about SEED

Residential Community Student Association (RCSA) Representatives (4)

The RCSA representatives work with the Residential Community Student Association to represent McCarty Hall residents in upcoming initiatives. This position involves advocating for our students in any matters that arise during the year.

RCSA Rep will:

  • Attend weekly RCSA general council meetings (Wednesdays 4:30pm-6pm)

  • Facilitate voting for any necessary RCSA legislation/initiatives

  • Attend quarterly meeting with MHC advisor Linds

  • Attend monthly meetings with AD for Representation

  • Attend weekly general hall council meetings and provide regular updates about RCSA

  • Are able to communicate well with peers

Budget Advisory Committee (BAC) Representative (1)

The BAC representative will work with the Budget Advisory Committee to gather information about the budget process for the upcoming year, share information with the council, and gather feedback from residents. To learn more about BAC, visit this website.

BAC representatives will be in a unique position this year as they advocate for students as we return to classrooms and the residential halls following the 2020-2021 school year. This year provides a chance for representatives to learn about how the pandemic is affecting our budget and how those broader impacts are translated into specific monetary impacts for students.

​

BAC Rep will:

  • Attend weekly BAC meetings (Thursdays at 5:30pm during Autumn/Winter quarter)

  • Attend weekly general council meetings and provide regular updates from BAC

  • Facilitate a formal presentation to the council about the Rates Proposal process in Winter Quarter

  • Attend monthly 1:1 meetings with AD for Representation

  • Attend a quarterly meeting with MHC advisor Linds

​

You may be well suited for this role if you:

  • Are comfortable with public speaking and sharing opinions

  • Have strong communication skills, including in more formal settings

  • Are interested in finance or economics questions

Residential Community Standards Committee (RCSC) Representative (1)

The RCSC Rep works with the Residential Community Standards Committee to learn and teach about housing policies. The RCSC representatives attend formal hearings to determine if violations of the housing agreement has occurred. To learn more about RCSC, visit this website.

RCSC will be a unique opportunity this year, as added regulations will have an additional impact on residents. Joining RCSC is a great way to learn more about how the current pandemic affects students and advocate for them.

​

RCSC Rep will:

  • Adjudicate formal hearings (if current circumstances allow)

  • Hear probation and suspended termination early exit requests

  • Attend bi-weekly RCSC meetings (Tuesdays 5:30pm-6:30pm)

  • Facilitate Community Living workshops (if current circumstances allow)

  • Attend meetings with MHC Advisor

  • Attend weekly general hall council meetings

​

You may be well suited for this role if you:

  • Are are willing to acknowledge your biases in order to limit their impact

  • Are flexible

  • Are interested in how Residential Life creates housing agreements and upholds them

What will an interview look like?

Interviews will be very low-intensity and are intended to give us an idea of where folx's strengths are, their goals, and how MHC can complement those strengths and goals!

After applying, you will get an email from the MHC advisor. You may be invited to schedule an interview. The goal of these interviews is to get to know you, why you want to be involved in our Hall Council, and to answer any questions you may have!
